Living in Glenlockhart

Glenlockhart is beautifully set, some 31/2 miles south west of the City Centre, close to many areas of open greenery within easy access of Craiglockhart, Morningside and Colinton Village.

Shopping is well-served. A short drive to Colinton Mains takes you to a popular Tesco Supermarket with Petrol Station, near which is a small parade of local shops including a chemist. Not far away at Craiglockhart’s “Happy Valley” are a few local shops including a wine merchant.

A little to the north at Chesser is a 24 hour Asda Supermarket. Nearby, Morningside/Bruntsfield offers a Waitrose Supermarket, Marks & Spencer food outlet and a remarkable choice of local and speciality shops including a traditional Fishmongers and Butcher. There is a good choice of recreational facilities all within easy reach. Of several Golf Courses nearby are Swanston, The Braids and Kingsknowe with Edinburgh Merchants within 300 yards.

Not far away to the North at Chesser is a Green’s Health and Leisure Centre, next to which is an Indoor Sports Centre with snooker and 5-a-side football. Craiglockhart boasts a Municipal Leisure Centre with extensive Tennis Courts. Morningside has a popular library, the well-loved Dominion cinema, the Churchill Theatre (home to many amateur productions) and a nice choice of bars, bistros and restaurants. Glenlockhart is within very easy reach of all three of Napier University’s campuses, most particularly these at Craiglockhart and Morningside, an easy walk away. Two of the city’s renowned Private Sector schools, George Watson’s College and Merchiston Castle School, are within easy reach.

Regular bus service takes you to and from the City Centre serving many suburbs. Car access to the City Centre is straightforward whilst a short drive South takes you to the Edinburgh City By-Pass and then East to the A1, A68 and A7 or West to the Gyle Business Park and Shopping Centre, the Airport, M8, M9, M90 and Central Scottish Motorway Network.
