Living in Colinton

Colinton is a highly desirable residential suburb to the south west of Edinburgh. In the centre is Colinton Village which offers speciality shops, local pubs, bistros, art gallery and a Co-op.

The Water of Leith runs through Colinton Dell connecting the area with many surrounding suburbs and provides excellent cycling and walking opportunities through lovely woodland.

Colinton is served by Colinton Primary School, Bonaly Primary School and Firrhill High School. Merchiston Castle School, east of the village, is an independent all-boys boarding school.

There is good public transport directly into the town centre and the city bypass, Edinburgh Airport, Forth Road Bridge and the main motorway networks are also within very easy reach.

It is a conservation area, with examples of significant Edwardian and Victorian houses. It also has a well-recognised connection with the famous poet and author Robert Louis Stevenson, who used to frequently visit his grandfather who was Minister of the Parish Church.
