When it comes to knowing the local market, McDougall McQueen know it inside out. We have one of the largest property teams in Edinburgh and the Lothians and we all live in and around the area, so can advise you on the marketplace if you are selling and also what it is like to live in that area if you are considering a move to a new location.

This month we are focusing on Penicuik – a bustling town and former burgh in Midlothian, sheltering beneath the south eastern slopes of the Pentland Hills and lying on the west bank of the River North Esk.

Natalie Bald, one of our Sales Negotiators, has lived in Penicuik practically all her life. She grew up in the area and although she moved away for a few years when she bought her first flat in Loanhead, after starting a family she knew she wanted to be back in Penicuik, close to family and friends.

As Natalie says “There is everything you need – from big named supermarkets and a post office and bank, to independent cafes and takeaways and hair and beauty salons. There are a number of primary schools as well as two well regarded high schools, Penicuik High School and Beeslack High School, and there is talk about them merging to create a world class secondary education provision for Penicuik.

There are lots of new-build housing developments including Bellway, CALA, Avant Homes and Taylor Wimpey, bringing more families and alike to the area. It is no surprise as there is so much here to do for families – from excellent parks and swimming pool / leisure centres to a variety of clubs and groups to suit individual likes and requirements.

It is also a great location for the commuter, with a reliable and regular bus service to and from Edinburgh and the surrounding areas, and is also ideal for Straiton which is being further developed offering more shopping and job opportunities.”
