There is nothing better than having an expert who works and lives in the area to give you honest and knowledgeable answers about an area you are thinking of moving to. With one of the largest property teams in Edinburgh and the Lothians, McDougall McQueen has over 100 years’ experience, and knows the market inside-out.

Famous for being the home of Miss Jean Brodie and Maisie the Cat, Morningside has a reputation for charming cafes, shops and bars, and our Sales Negotiator Caroline Scott tells us what it is like to live there.

“I love that you can walk to most places and that there is so much green space on your doorstep – we are spoilt for choice with the Braid Hills, Craiglockhart Hill, Blackford Hill, Colinton Dell and even Swanston, and were especially thankful during lockdown that so many places nearby were accessible on foot, and that we had a dog to walk!

There are lots of local amenities close-by with a good choice of independent bakeries, supermarkets, butchers, post offices, cafes and banks to mention a few. If eating out, there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from so we never really need to get in the car to go out to socialise. There is also the local Dominion Cinema which is a friendly family run theatre showing all the up-to-date films. And if you do want to venture further afield, whether to the City Centre or to the North of the City, the bus network is very accessible.

Morningside is very popular amongst young families as the schooling in Morningside, and in the nearby catchment of Bruntsfield, is very good. There is also a great choice of private schools within walking distance with George Watson’s College in the heart of Morningside, and George Heriot’s easily accessible by bus. As well as schooling, there are many playgroup facilities and churches which offer pre-school age meetings for mother & toddler, and fantastic private nurseries. The choice for children is endless and there are numerous clubs and Brownies and Scout Groups for them to socialise at.

There is a real community feel about Morningside and there are always social gatherings in the Braidburn Valley Park throughout the year. I love living in Morningside and knowing that I feel safe here and nothing is too far to walk to!”
