McDougall McQueen are proud to be partnering with The Dementia Trust for this year’s POA month.
A Power of Attorney isn’t just for older people. Illness or accidents can happen at any stage of life, and having a Power of Attorney in place is one of the most important steps any adult in Scotland can take.
Without a Power of Attorney, no one has the automatic right to manage your finances, pay bills, or make health and welfare decisions on your behalf if you lose capacity – even your spouse or partner. This can lead to delay, uncertainty, and added stress at an already difficult time.
A properly drafted Power of Attorney ensures that the people you trust can step in quickly and act in line with your wishes, whether the situation is temporary or long-term. It provides clarity, control, and peace of mind for you and your loved ones.
As part of PoA Month and the Planning Ahead campaign, we are donating 10% of all Power of Attorney fees during February to The Dementia Trust.
If you haven’t set up a PoA yet, consider:
✔️ Doing it early — PoA can only be granted while you have capacity
✔️ Covering both Financial/Property and Health/Welfare powers
✔️ Talking to family about your wishes now, not later
✔️ Knowing where documents are kept and who can act
✔️ Getting independent advice to ensure it’s done properly
A gentle but important reminder: Powers of Attorney aren’t about age – they’re about being prepared.
