Will Harry & Meghan be safe-proofing their home for the new Royal baby?

Whether you are welcoming a new baby to your home or are thinking of selling your house and targeting young families, there are steps you should take to ensure your house is safe for children.

Families have a specific idea of what they are looking for in a house – from the location of the property in proximity to schools, to the layout of the property and how it will lend to modern family living, to ensuring there are no key hazards about the house and garden that cannot be overcome.

Harry and Meghan will no doubt have an abundance of staff baby-proofing Frogmore Cottage, ensuring that their home on the grounds of Windsor Estate is suitable for the new royal baby, however we have prepared a list of property must-do’s for any new parent:

  • Use safety gates on the top and bottom of stairs and in the doorways of rooms that contain hazards
  • Put locks or latches on cupboards and drawers that contain unsafe items
  • Cut window-blind cords or use safety tassels and stops so that children can't get entangled
  • Use doorstops and door holders on heavy doors
  • Install corner and edge bumpers on low tables or items with sharp edges
  • Place covers over unused electrical outlets
  • Create barriers or fences around hazardous garden areas or water features
  • Install locks on medicine cabinets
